Cricket in the Thames Valley just got Serious
August 12, 2015
12 points currently separate Berkshire CCC & Oxfordshire CCC, both from the Team Serious stable, before the final round of fixtures this weekend in the Unicorns Championship Western Division.
Oxfordshire have enjoyed a purple patch during the run-in winning 4 of their last 5 matches with their only slip up coming against fellow title contenders Berkshire back in early June. Berkshire still remain undefeated this season however a couple of draws in their last 5 matches has left them 12 points adrift.
Going into the match this weekend Oxfordshire's Captain Luke Ryan had the following to say: "Our squad are very much looking forward to our final 3-day match of the season. We are in the privileged position to be on top of the table and therefore have our fate in our own hands. We will however be approaching the match in the same manner as previous matches and trying our very best to get a win to make the happenings elsewhere irrelevant".
Knowing they need a 13 point swing to become divisional champions, Berkshire Captain James Morris won't be letting the occasion get the better of his side: "This weekend is potentially a very special one for us but we'll be relying on others to help us if we are to be popping corks on Tuesday evening. As clichéd as it might sound, we must first and foremost concentrate on ourselves by playing perfect cricket for 3 days down in Bournemouth, picking up as many points as we can in the process. We'll worry about everything else once our job is done".
Berkshire travel to Dorset whilst Wiltshire host Oxfordshire this Sunday with both matches starting at 11am. The winner of the division will then progress to play in the MCCA final.
